IRON KATCHUSHI TSUBA

Tsuba is done in Moji Sukashi or open work writing. The motif is Hachiman Daibosatsu , a warrior's prayer. Hachiman Daibosatsu or Hachiman "Great Budhha to be" was the Shinto God of War and the protector of Japan and it's people. This was a popular motif during the Sengoku Jidai or warring states period which lasted from the mid 1500's to the beginning of the 1700's.
