WAKIZASHI HAKUSHU JU OHARA SANEMORI SUGATA: SHINOGI ZUKURI DATE: NONE OVERALL: 66.52cm (26.1875") MIHABA: 2.97cm (1.1875") HORIMONO OMOTE: NONE HORIMONO URA: NONE SHIRASAYA
WAKIZASHI HAKUSHU JU OHARA SANEMORI The Ohara school was one of the earliest sword schools dating back to the 9th century. They declined after the emergence of the AOE school in adjacent Bitchu province. This is a gorgeous wakizashi, the hada and nakago seem to indicate a Koto work as well this smith and school date to the koto period. There are a few very small areas of light scuffs, hike kizu or surface scratches, kitte ware, nothing detrimental. The hada is Itame with chikei, inazuma and kinsuji. The hamon is Gunome with nioi with some nie sprinkled throughout. If you were to desire more precise and accurate information it should be sent to shinsa. It is in great polish, comes with a nice shirasaya so, unless you collect this particular school or smith, or just have a desire to own papers, it is a quite nice piece and can be enjoyed just as is.
