KATANA NAGATSUGU
Katana inscribed Ashu Fujiwara Ju Nagatsugu. Hawley's only lists two Nagatsugu smith's who used this "Naga" character, one an early Bizen smith which this is certainly not and another working circa 1688. The Nagatsugu smith c. 1688 was a member of the Kaifu Ha in Awa province. He is listed in the Toko Taikan pg. 264, and the Nihonto Meikan pg. 667. With not much information to be found it is impossible to say absolutely this is the same smith. The Sugata is shinogi zukuri, toshizori with ko-kissaki, and ubu nakago with three mekugi ana. The Hada is itame with mokume. The Hamon is ko-notare based on suguha, with activities such as nijuba, nie sake, uchinoke, etc.. There are a few areas of light scuffing, hike kizu or surface scratches, small kitte ware, tiny pits, stains, tiny chips. No fatal or serious flaws.
