| KATANA IYETSUGU KOTO TENSHO C. 1572-1590 NTHK PAPERS NBTHK PAPERS SUGATA: SHINOGI ZUKURI DATE: NONE OVERALL: 86.36cm (34") MIHABA: 3.52cm (1.3875") HORIMONO OMOTE: NONE HORIMONO URA: NONE SHIRASAYA KATANA IYETSUGU NTHK / NBTHK PAPERS This Katana was forged by the swordsmith Iyetsugu. Iyetsugu's was from the Fujishima school of Kaga no Kuni. The Fujishima school was founded by Tomoshige, who was a student of Rai Kunitoshi. The Iyetsugu name was used for many generations from Nambokucho to the latter part of the Muromachi jidai. The NTHK attributed this work to Kasshu Iyetsugu the Tensho period, 1572-1592. The NBTHK papers are what are known as "Green" papers. They were awarded at the 1980 US Shinsa, and are "Tokubetsu Kicho" paper. These papers were the highest level paper issued at the shinsa. The also attribute this sword to Kaga Iyetsugu. This sword while suriage, does retain much of it's original koshizori shape, as well as a two character mei of Iye Tsugu. The Sugata is shinogi zukuri, suriage koshizori, iori mune, and ko-kissaki. The Boshi is midare-komi with kaeri fukai or long turn back. The Hada is itame, Hamon is a wildly flamboyant hitatsura with too much activity to try to describe. The Nakago is suriage with three(3) mekugi ana, yokoyasuri or kiri yasurime. The sword comes with a premium shirasaya and two piece gold foil habaki.
